Two Questions Tuesday

1)  What training program do you follow for marathons and why?

2)  What should be Jen and I's next challenge (half way through 100 pushups, 200 situps, and 200 squats)?

I've been searching Craigslist for a used treadmill.  I've decided it was a necessity being that insanely registered for an early spring marathon.  I despise running on treadmills, but long runs in the dead of winter will be tough without one.

1) I don't - I only do half marathons. ;-p

2) Hmmmmm. Maybe some sort of yoga or stretching challenge

I used the Hal Higdon one...it worked well for me.

For the run/walk mix style (which can be just as fast if not faster than straight running), then Jeff Galloway would be your guy.

Maybe you want to check out the Jeff Galloway program which is basically a run walk program and tweak it to meet your needs?!

Good luck finding a treadmill. I can't imagine training for a marathon in our winter weather either... without a treadmill that is. :)

I think we should do the jillian michaels 30 day shred

Whatever your next challenge is, maintain some strength training. Weights, resistance bands, or even just keeping up with the calesthenics you are doing will be one of the best things you can do for your body, to prevent loss of muscle tone and also maintain strong bones as you get older. I need to practice what I preach. I have free weights sitting right in front of my couch, to remind me, but I end up doing other things.

Strength training also keeps your body burning more calories.
