The foam roller can be used on more areas of the body (e.g., the back) and is more effective at covering large portions of the body at once (e.g., full length of leg). However, the stick is more compact/portable and is good for targeting specific trouble spots without having to contort your body into strange positions.<br /><br />I really hope your hamstring heals before your marathon. I just had to cancel/defer two races because of a strained MCL. I may even have to cancel a third if I don't have enough time to train once (if) it heals.
